If you had the honor of meeting Ken, then your life was definitely touched. If you had the pleasure of knowing Ken, then your life was truly changed. Ken was an amazing person and someone who could and did make things happen in the African American community. I believe I first met Ken in 2010 when my team and I were finishing up the development of the first social networking site with moving emoji's, on-page stores, and built-in video chat. He jokingly called me the Black Zuckerberg. Ever since then, I would share tech ideas with him and he would give me marketing advice and just a listening ear. We would often run into each other in Hyde Park and talk for 20-30+ minutes about life, tech, and everything else. He had one of the most welcoming laughs. I still miss his laugh and our talks. Ken was the founder of Target Market News, a leading publication focused on the marketing, advertising and media focus on the Black Demographic. His publication also created the annual "Buying Power of Black Americans" Report. Target Market News also highlighted weekly Black Cable TV Ratings and weekly Black TV Ratings. This is but a glimpse into the greatness of Ken and his desire to make sure the Black Voice was not only heard, but treated in a manner that reflected it's buying power and influence. Ken was married to Renee Ferguson, the first African American woman to work as an investigative reporter in Chicago television and a long-time journalist for WMAQ, Channel 5 News. Just like Ken, Renee was an amazing person and trailblazer. Among her many honors, Ferguson was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University and won the prestigious duPont–Columbia Award from Columbia University.
